Personal integrity and faking in the workplace: when competition matters

Abstract Despite the fact that employee faking or intentional response distortion is a critical concern in many workplace processes, antecedents of this behavior are poorly understood. Based on signaling theory describing as strategic adaptation to competitive signals, study examines influence personal integrity and perceived competition faking. An online between-subjects experiment was carried out sample teachers from elementary schools selected regions Czech Republic ( N = 470). The experimental group subjected competition-inducing instructions during administration Occupational Integrity Scale (OIS) Balanced Inventory Desirable Responding (BIDR-CZ), an indicator (impression management). Findings provided support for moderating role link between impression management integrity. Those who scored lower reliability moral sense (factors OIS) exposed significantly higher than respondents control group, supporting manipulation against excessive score inflation. suggested if organizations not sure level employees, they should utilize cues since individuals with low tend fake their responses increase person-organization fit. managerial implications these findings were discussed.
